Main Idea Anytime!

Some of you may be familiar with the Main Idea Mix Up literacy centers I made for Valentine's Day and Presidents Day.  If you liked them, you may be interested in this new literacy center I've been working on.  I've created a set of 4 Main Idea ix Ups that are not specific to any holidays.  The 4 sets include:

1. Penguins
2. Cupcakes
3. Monsters
4. Forest Friends

Just like the holiday mix ups, these graphic organizer boards and detail cards can be differentiated for different grade levels and levels of learners.  Once the main ideas and details have been matched up on their graphic organizer boards, students will use the information to write a narrative or informational piece.  They can be differentiated by changing assignment expectations.   Early learners can start with basic information found in the cards.  Higher level learners can add research to informational pieces or text-to-self connections to narrative pieces.

Sight Word Game Board Follow Up!

One of my more popular products has been my Sight Word Game Board (owl themed).  I originally created the board with the 1st 100 Fry Sight Words entered into the game spaces because this is a popular list that overlaps with the Rebecca Sitton sight word list.  Both lists are commonly used.  It was brought to my attention, however, that other school systems may use other words so a request was made for a blank board.  If this is something you're interested, I've made 1 blank board for you to write your own words in.  This gives you the ability to tailor the game boards to suit your purposes in any subject area.  You can use sight words or vocabulary words!

Valentine's Day Main Idea Mix-up

Do you need a fun way to get your kids to practice main idea and details?  Here's a cute new Valentine's Day themed center that will get your kids thinking!  Your students will need to use their thinking caps to sort through the details and match them up to the main idea.  This FREE center includes 2 graphic organizer boards, main idea and supporting detail cards, and a cute writing paper template for your students to use once they are done sorting the main idea and detail cards onto the graphic organizer boards.  Challenge your higher thinkers to use text-to-self connections to add personal experience or opinions to their writing using one of the completed graphic organizer boards.

Franken-sentences

Frankenstein
(verb) : To cobble something together in an inventive manner.

I think I overuse this word (if possible).

For example:
We recently moved this past summer.  Before our current, oh-so-spacious home we used to live in a great little townhouse.  That was the problem, thought.  It was little.  In efforts to save space my husband took one of my half bookshelves and a half cabinet, stacked them on top of each other, and then fastened them together in the back.

Frankensteining.

That's what I call my "Franken-cabinet" or "Franken-shelf".

That being said, perhaps you will now understand my newest center! I call it . . .

"Franken-Sentences!"

This is a fun way to get your kids to pay attention to reading for meaning.  Students must rearrange and piece together these broken sentences to create a working sentence.  Each sentence must make sense.

This package includes 10 sets of sentences, recording sheet, and answer key.  The 1st 5 sets show capitalization and punctuation that can be used as clues when piecing the sentences together. The last 5 sets do not have punctuation or capitalization and will be more challenging.
